The Goodenough Company provides a range of targeted management consulting services, including troubled employee coaching; assisting with structural re-organizations, layoffs, or individual terminations; succession planning; and team-building. Please Contact Us for more information on the specific services outlined below.
Through team-building, employees build trust, create agreements about common values and goals, and learn how to effectively communicate with one another and to successfully set short and long-term goals. Team members learn how to listen effectively and actively; better understand delegation and monitoring practices; and can more easily manage process improvement. We have led team-building with numerous private and public sector organizations, primarily at the senior management level.
Long-Term Personnel Planning
It is now relatively common to change jobs every few years, and employees are increasingly demanding more rapid development opportunities. High employee turnover can hurt a company’s morale and bottom line; at the same time, a deliberate, planned evolution in staff and leadership can boost morale and productivity enormously. Long-term personnel planning can also include succession planning, which for many reasons can be perceived as threatening or disruptive. Too often executives and Boards do not discuss concrete long-term personnel plans until after a destabilizing event has occurred, resulting in disorderly, rushed action. We help organizations and companies address long-term personnel planning in safe, effective, and thoughtful ways, acknowledging the unique history and personalities of each organization and leadership structure. We also have extensive experience addressing such issues as generational misalignment and founder’s syndrome.
More than 80% of U.S. firms are small to mid-sized, family-owned or closely-held; they provide employment to over half of the country. However, it is also estimated that 2 out of 3 of these businesses will at some point go out of business due to internal disputes among family members and friends. Moreover, while just 30% of family-owned businesses reach the second generation, only 15% reach the third and beyond. The complex dynamics that differentiate a family-owned or closely-held firm from a public corporation are often underappreciated. These businesses are built out of complex personal relationships and histories, which can create unique issues and problems that are different from those experienced in other companies. We appreciate the continuous interplay between the family and work dynamics, which must both be addressed to ensure productivity and long-term viability.
Candidate Lead Assessment
We thoroughly evaluate the workplace environment and interview key members of the leadership team to gain an accurate sense of the culture and existing personality types. Next, we administer a standard series of personality and leadership surveys to each candidate under review. Then, David conducts in-depth, one-on-one interviews with each candidate. In these sessions, David uses his counseling background to assess emotional intelligence, leadership style, decision-making ability, personality type, maturity level and intellectual IQ.
Because of David’s extensive mental-health background, his leadership-coaching experience and his unique approach to hiring, he can help you answer critical questions upfront and eliminate much of the innate risk in making a new hire.
If your company has multiple technically excellent candidates for a position, David’s assessment can help you figure out how each one would fit into your organization and what oversight each would require. Clients can add David’s assessment to their own opinions and make better-informed hiring decisions.
